Snowy Valleys Council has opened nominations for the 2019 Australia Day Awards, which recognise and honour people who make an outstanding contribution to their local communities.

Mayor James Hayes said the awards are an integral part of the Australia Day celebrations, and is encouraging people to nominate the unsung heroes in our community.

“Each year it’s a privilege to celebrate the individuals and groups within our community who go above and beyond to achieve their best and serve others,” Cr Hayes said.

Australia Day Award nomination categories are available for both the Tumut and Tumbarumba Regions with awards being presented on Australia Day.

Tumut Region Australia Day Award categories include Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year, Service to the Community, Senior & Junior Sports Person of the Year, and Sports Team of the Year.

Tumbarumba Region Australia Day Award categories include Citizen, Young Citizen and Senior Citizen of the Year, Community Event, Community Group, Sporting and Special Achievement.

“If you know a friend, family member, co-worker or group whose efforts have helped to make the Snowy Valleys community a better place please consider acknowledging their contribution by nominating them for a 2019 Australia Day Award,” Cr Hayes said

Nomination forms can be accessed via Council’s website www.svc.nsw.gov.au/aust-day.  Hard copies can also be picked up from Council’s offices and Libraries.
