Cloverdale residents are being advised to continue to boil their tap water used for drinking or to use bottled water until further notice.

Low chlorine residuals have been detected in the local water supply and the precautionary boil water notice is in effect until Council staff and NSW Health are confident there is no public health concern.

Council’s Acting Director Assets and Infrastructure Heinz Kausche said Council staff are working closely with NSW Health to manage the low chlorine residual in the Cloverdale Water Supply System.

“We are actively monitoring the chlorine residual and other parameters on a daily basis and sending the results through to NSW Health,” Mr Kausche said.

“Immediate remedial action, including flushing of the water mains pipes has been undertaken; however as a precaution, residents are advised to heed boil water notice.

“We are also sourcing options for chlorine boosting at the pump station upstream of Cloverdale water supply and reviewing the hydraulics of the supply system.

Approximately 60 households are connected to mains water in the Cloverdale area with many residents using a combination of town and tank water.

NSW Health and NSW Department of Industry, Water officials are expected to visit Snowy Valleys Council before Christmas to review the water supply system.

“We thank the Cloverdale residents for their patience and will provide updated information as it is available,” Mr Kausche said.

For residents with rainwater tanks, NSW Health provides information regarding the disinfection of rainwater on their website:
