Snowy Valleys Council is extending an open invitation to community members to take part in tourism-branding workshops to be held in Tumut and Tumbarumba next week.

Council’s Director Strategy, Community and Development Gus Cox said the community workshops were an important step in developing a tourism brand and marketing strategy for the region.

“The strategy is one of the key actions from the Destination Management Plan and will help communicate the Snowy Valleys region as a tourism destination and provide clear direction for promotional activities to capitalise on tourism sector growth”, Mr Cox said.

Council has engaged award winning agency ‘For the People’ to help develop the new tourism branding and marketing strategy and they will be in town to conduct the community workshops.

“We were impressed with For the People’s capacity to work with regional communities. Their recent experience working with the Tasmanian communities of West Coast Council sets them in good stead to work with, listen and understand our community’s issues and aspirations”, Mr Cox said.

The sessions will assist in uncovering community stories, reflections and rich insights that will help inform the raw research materials required to build a compelling and authentic new brand for the region.

Mr Cox explained, “We are keen to hear the questions, needs, hopes and expectations locals have around the development of a new tourism brand for the region and invite everyone to come along and be involved.

”There will also be more opportunities to be involved and have your say in the future for those not able to make these first workshops”.

Community workshops will be held in Tumbarumba at the RSL Hall on Monday 24 September from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and in Tumut at Club Tumut on Wednesday 26 September from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
