COUNCIL CHOOSES TO REUSE ON THE NATIONAL GARAGE SALE TRAIL

Snowy Valleys Council is encouraging the community to think differently about waste by participating in the national Garage Sale Trail reuse and recycling event in October.

The Garage Sale Trail is one big weekend of garage sales in communities across Australia on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October 2017.

The event aims to get the community thinking about the waste they generate and how it could possibly be reused.

Acting General Manager Dave Aber said that waste continues to be growing issue.

“As a nation, the amount of waste we churn out has grown six times faster than the population and in fact, the average Australian family now produces enough waste to fill a 3 bedroom house every year.  While recycling is one solution, reuse of unwanted things is even better”.

Snowy Valleys Council hopes that the Garage Sale Trail will get the community thinking about how they might be able to sell their unwanted items before binning them for landfill.

“After all, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure,” Mr Aber said.

Last year’s Garage Sale Trail saw 2 million items listed for sale across the nation at over 15,000 registered garage sales and stalls.

“At last check, we have had 18 sales register across the Snowy Valleys Council area for the trail. That’s a great effort for a council our size,” he said.

The Garage Sale Trail is happening in Snowy Valleys Council and across the country on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October 2017.

Registration is free! Put your sale on the Trail or see what’s on offer at garagesaletrail.com.au.
