Snowy Valleys Council has welcomed the results of last weekend’s election and is now focused on building a sustainable future as a merged entity.

Mayor Cr James Hayes said now that the NSW election had been decided Snowy Valleys Council can draw a line in the sand and concentrate on the future.

“The outcome of last weekend’s elections provides a clear forward motion for us and we know the majority of people just want us to get on and continue our focus on service delivery and representing the whole community,” he said.

General Manager Matthew Hyde said the outcome of the election also provides Council staff with a solid foundation to move forward as one team.

“It presents a significant turning point for all staff, removing any uncertainty and allowing us to truly focus on operating as a cohesive unit no matter which location or office we work in,” he said.

Snowy Valleys Council is in the unusual situation of running across two electorates, Wagga Wagga and Albury and Cr Hayes say this presents opportunities for strong partnerships.

“I send my congratulations to both the member for Wagga Wagga Dr McGirr and the new Liberal member for Albury Justin Clancy and look forward to working with them, as well as with our locally based MLCs in continuing to advocate for our communities,” he said.

Council has enjoyed unprecedented access to State Ministers and Premier over the last year and been rewarded with significant investment in the region.

“We will continue to build relationships within all sectors of Government and remain agile and ready to capitalise on any and all opportunities,” Cr Hayes said.

“A key focus is to continue to advance our Advocacy Plan, and with the Federal election just around the corner we will be working very hard to seize the opportunity to escalate and promote the community’s priority projects in an effort to secure funding and support”.

Snowy Valleys Council adopted its Advocacy Plan in December 2018 to ensure a sustained approach to securing funding and support for eleven priority projects in the lead up to the 2019 State and Federal Government elections.
