Expressions of Interest invited for Khancoban Storefront

Snowy Valleys Council is seeking expressions of interest for the purchase of a shopfront in the Khancoban Shopping Complex.

Currently owned by Council the shopfront in Mitchell Avenue, Khancoban is presently leased and trading as the Khancoban Chemist.

Snowy Valleys Council’s Acting Director Assets and Infrastructure Heinz Kausche said Council supported the decision to divest itself of the shopfront as there had been interest shown from potential buyers.

“Commitment of an interested party into owning the shop will help to promote further development and attraction to the Khancoban Village,” Mr Kausche said.

Identified as Lot 5 DP 215605, Mitchell Avenue, the site is centrally located at the Khancoban Shopping Centre, and consists of one lot with existing store building approximately 78m2, including retail space with easily accessible car parking.

Khancoban was built during the construction of the Snowy Mountains Scheme. The nearby Murray 2 Power Station and Visitor’s Centre is a popular attraction for families. Recreational motorcyclists are also frequent visitors to the town.

Surrounded by rivers and streams, Khancoban is a popular fishing destination, with the Khancoban Pondage also popular for fishing and water sports. In the cooler months, Khancoban is an ideal base for day trips to the snow fields at Thredbo, or cross country skiing in the back country.

“Active businesses in Khancoban are important to future tourism growth and are essential to the continued vibrancy and livability of the town,” Mr Kausche said. “It will be important that the storefront is maintained to a high standard and operated in a manner that will encourage the ongoing sustainability of Khancoban”.

Anyone wishing to inspect the store prior to submitting an expression of interest can contact Council’s Division Manager Asset Planning and Design, Glen McGrath on 0269 489 135 or via email [email protected]

Expression of Interest are to be lodged online at www.tenderlink.com/snowyvalleys or via hardcopy in the tender box at Council’s Tumbarumba Office, Bridge Street, Tumbarumba by 5pm on Friday 22nd February 2019.
