Snowy Valleys Council will waive all pool entry fees for the 2017-18 swimming season as part of a trial aimed at increasing social cohesion and active lifestyles.

The trial will come into effect immediately with swimmers being able to access the Adelong and Tumut pools for free from this Saturday and all other Council pools from their scheduled opening dates.

Community members who have already purchased season tickets will be entitled to a refund.

Director of Infrastructure and Assets Matthew Christensen is advising season ticket holders that Council staff members would make contact once arrangements for the reimbursement were put in place.

“Our customer service team members will make contact with all season ticket holders as soon as we can to confirm the arrangements for the refund. We’re right now working on the mechanics of that and staff are currently evaluating how best to expedite the process to avoid any unnecessary delays,” he said.

Mr Christensen said that due to the short turnaround between the decision and the scheduled opening, staff would be convening urgently to discuss the operational implications so that the community can take up the offer of free entry immediately.

“There are operational considerations such as the potential for extra staffing, and we need to look at how we best capture the attendance data that we’ll need to effectively measure the success of the trial, starting this weekend at Adelong and Tumut,” he said.

Council are expecting the numbers of the patrons for the pools to swell over the season.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the additional swimmers at all five council pools over the summer, making the most of these great community assets,” he said.
