There’s no better feeling than bagging a bargain on a pre-loved treasure and this year’s Garage Sale Trail in the Snowy Valleys area, on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October, is shaping up to be another great sustainable shopping extravaganza.

Snowy Valleys Council’s Director of Strategy, Community and Development Gus Cox said Council was proud to be hosting the Garage Sale Trail for a fourth year.

“The Garage Sale Trail is a fun and social way to reuse and recycle unwanted items and helps to educate about why we all need to take responsibility for the waste we generate,” Mr Cox said.

The FREE, nationwide program allows households across Australia to host a garage sale on the one weekend. The weekend celebrates re-use and community connectedness, as pre-loved goods are given a new home and locals come together.

The Trail provides thousands of Australians with a chance to re-home items that may otherwise end up in landfill.

“Reusing or selling stuff you no longer want at a garage sale is a terrific way to do your bit for the environment and a great way to meet the neighbours too,” explained Mr Cox.

Environment Minister Gabrielle Upton said Garage Sale Trail was an important initiative and urged NSW residents to get involved by attending a garage sale in their local area.

“The NSW Government is once again partnering with Garage Sale Trail on Australia’s biggest weekend of reuse.

“The illegal dumping of household goods, particularly on the kerbside, is a significant problem with clothing, furniture, and other household goods making up 47% of all of NSW’s illegally dumped goods.” Ms Upton said.

The social nature of the weekend coupled with the remarkable items that are unleashed from sheds, attics and garages make Garage Sale Trail an amazing collision of good times and good buys – all whilst promoting reuse.

Shoppers can map out the local sales they’d like to visit over the weekend for free by searching the map and creating a Trail at www.garagesaletrail.com.au/councils/Snowy-Valleys
