Local non-profit organisations and sponsored individual artists can now apply for grant funding for their art or cultural development project under the Snowy Valleys Council’s Art and Cultural Development Grants.

Council’s Acting Mayor John Larter said the Art and Cultural Development Grants are designed to help increase art and cultural activities within the communities of the Snowy Valleys.

“The grant funding aims to provide strong support for arts and cultural development at the grass roots level and continue to build a stronger foundation for the arts throughout the whole of our Snowy Valleys region,” Cr Larter said

Previous fund recipients include the Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins Committee who used their grant monies to fund the Adelong Falls Ephemeral Art Day. The art works produced from the art day are currently on show at the Tumut Region Visitors Centre Gallery until 30th September 2018.

Council’s Director Strategy, Community and Development Gus Cox said the Arts and Cultural Development Grant was previously offered in the Tumut region and this year has been opened up to include all communities in the Snowy Valleys area.

“We are working on harmonising our grants process across the LGA where possible and it’s fantastic to be able to offer this arts and cultural grant opportunity to all the SVC communities,” Mr Cox said.

Examples of what may be funded include skills development workshops, cultural performances/activities reflecting cultural diversity, and community involved arts experiences.

“We hope this grants program will inspire local artists and organisations to apply for funding to make their project ideas a reality,” Cr Larter said.

Applications are open now and will close at 5pm on Friday 10 August 2018.
