Major infrastructure projects across the Snowy Valleys will be a priority for Council in 2018 as work on the Administrator’s Major Projects Program gets underway in the New Year.

The list of projects was unveiled by Council Administrator Paul Sullivan in early August, and is funded through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund for merged councils.

General Manager Matthew Hyde said that the projects would deliver long-term economic and social benefits to the Snowy Valleys Council.

“The NSW Government’s investment allows us to address some of the longstanding issues and aspirations of the community,” he said.

“Our Major Projects Program strikes a good balance between encouraging economic growth in the region and delivering new and improved community, sporting and road infrastructure to support the needs of our growing community.”

Mr Hyde has confirmed that plans, designs and cost estimates for the individual projects are currently being finalised.

Council has also finalised a project schedule outlining the estimated project start dates, project details and budget.

Projects scheduled to get underway in the first half of 2018 include:

Brindabella Road Upgrade ($308,000) – review and updating of existing feasibility study conducted in 2007; cost estimate for design of major upgrade of the section from Piccadilly Circus to the Goodradigbee Bridge.

Tumbarumba CBD Pergolas in The Parade ($150,000) – detailed designs, development application and construction.

Khancoban General Store Purchase and CBD Redevelopment ($594,000) – acquisition and fit out of the Khancoban General Store, CBD revitalisation project as per masterplan including walkway linking CBD to caravan park.

Rosewood Golf Club Upgrade ($230,000) – new kitchen, caravan park set up establishment including five cabins, verandah upgrade and landscaping eastern side of club building.

Batlow CBD Redevelopment ($700,000) – preparation of CBD redevelopment plan (stage one of a three year proposed CBD masterplan), stage one includes concept plans, technical designs and construction.

Adelong Caravan Park Upgrade ($266,000) – improvements to existing facilities.

Adelong Creekscape Redevelopment ($515,841) - includes the development of a concept and master plan for the revitalisation of the open space district that runs along the Adelong creek behind the main CBD district.

Montreal Theatre upgrade ($331,000) – work is already underway by the volunteer management committee on essential upgrades to Tumut’s historically significant theatre.

“The remainder of the projects are due to start in the second half of 2018 or in 2019,” Mr Hyde said.

The process to determine Council’s Major Projects Program commenced in January this year, when residents, community groups and stakeholders were invited to attend a series of community meetings or to submit proposed projects to the Administrator for consideration.

Membership of the Stronger Communities Fund Assessment Panel included Mr Sullivan and the State Member for Wagga Wagga, Daryl Maguire MP, the State Member for Albury, Greg Aplin MP, an independent probity adviser and a representative of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

All projects included in the Major Projects Program will be included in Council’s Delivery Plan for execution. The full program of works must be completed by 30 June 2019, with funding acquitted by 31 December 2019.
