The town of Khancoban is set to make a splash as its new $685,000 pool opens its gates for the community this Friday 15 December.

Director Strategy, Community and Development Gus Cox said that the completed pool is part of Snowy Valleys Council’s commitment to maintaining and improving the amenity of its towns and villages.

“The new 25 metre pool with disabled access, toddler’s pool and concourse has transformed the old pool complex to a new modern facility that was well overdue,” Mr Cox said.

“Reconstructing the Khancoban pool for its residents and visitors is an investment in the town’s liveability. It will contribute to the health and wellbeing of families, young people and seniors,” Mr Cox said.

Contractors completed the reconstruction of the pool in early December, with Council staff continuing work on the pool grounds over the past couple of weeks.

The new pool replaces a 50-year-old facility hailing from the Snowy Mountains Scheme era, which was in dire need of an upgrade.

To celebrate the completion of the project, Council will host a free family pool party this Saturday 16 December at the Khancoban Pool from 4pm -6.30pm.

“The pool party is shaping up to be a great evening. Not only is entry free, there’s also a free sausage sizzle and an inflatable device for the kids,” Mr Cox said.

An official opening is scheduled to take place in February 2018 after the bustle of the festive season is over.
