New Batlow Library Planning Underway

Following the State Government’s approved grant funding of $1 million for construction of a new, state-of-the-art Library facility for Batlow, Snowy Valleys Council will be seeking feedback from residents on the draft building plans.
Council Director Assets & Infrastructure Matt Christensen said taking the concept plan back out to the community was essential to ensure that the new building would suit their needs.
“Our next step is to seek the Batlow community’s input into the final design of the building so we can refine the concept plans into a detailed scope of works,” Mr Christensen said.
The new library facility will benefit a range of Batlow residents and visitors including children and youth, library users with mobility impairments, community groups, seasonal workers, library internet users, and users of the Literary Institute hall.
“This is a unique once-in-a-generation project that will benefit the whole community and we want to ensure the new library is a true community hub for Batlow,” Mr Christensen said.
As well as holding a public meeting and a pop-up at the current Batlow Library, Council staff will be in direct contact with key library user groups to gain their feedback on the concept plans.
“In keeping with Council’s commitment to consult with stakeholders and address any possible concerns about the development, we want to ensure we cover all demographics and identified specialist library users,” Mr Christensen said.
Community members will also be able to go on-line to the Snowy Valleys Council website and have their say on the new building concept design via a short on-line survey.
“We anticipate getting in touch with key user groups in early April, with the community meeting and on-line survey to follow later in the month,” Mr Christensen said.
At this stage, construction is planned to commence in March 2019 with the aim of completing the works by March 2020.
