NEW COUNCILLORS WELCOMED AT FIRST COUNCIL MEETING

The election of the first Mayor for Snowy Valleys Council will be the first item of business when Council holds its inaugural meeting on Thursday 28 September.

Council's Acting General Manager David Aber is looking forward to the beginning of a new era for Council and our region.

"Congratulations to all of the successful candidates in the first election for Snowy Valleys Council.  We are looking forward to forming a partnership with the new Council to build strong and vibrant communities and to continue to deliver valuable services for the region," he said.

Mr Aber will be running an intensive introductory workshop with the nine new councillors prior to the Council meeting on 28 September that will assist them to commence their roles and provide background on the Snowy Valleys Council journey since it was proclaimed in May 2016.

"I will be working closely with our new Council to ensure that our plans and decisions reflect the strategic priorities of the communities of the Snowy Valleys Council area now and into the future" said Mr Aber.

New councillors are now required under the Local Government Act to take an 'Oath of Office' prior to the first Council meeting.

“Taking the Oath of Office is significant for our new councillors. The ceremony is planned for 12:30pm on 28 September, before the Council meeting and we invite members of the public to attend or tune in via the YouTube livestream at the time of the Oath, or at their leisure later,” he said.

The first Council meeting will take place from 2pm on Thursday 28 September at the Tumbarumba Council Chambers in Bridge Street, Tumbarumba.

The meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. The council meeting will be livestreamed to the public.
