Member for Albury, Greg Aplin announced last week that the site proposed for NSW’s first Rail Trail from Tumbarumba to Rosewood had been gazetted, and ownership of the disused rail land transferred from Transport NSW to Crown Lands.

Snowy Valleys Council General Manager Matthew Hyde said he welcomed the news of the land transfer.

“The rail trail was one of our key talking points when we met with the Premier last week and we were advised then that the ownership transfer was due to come out in the gazette,” Mr Hyde said

The pilot rail trail is a significant economic and tourism project for Snowy Valleys Council and has been recognised as a ‘gamechanger’ project in the draft Economic Development Strategy and Destination Management Plan for the LGA.

“To date, the project has involved extensive and ongoing consultation with the community and affected landholders and the announcement of the land transfer is a positive move forward for the project.” Mr Hyde said.

The rail trail from Tumbarumba to Rosewood will be the first for NSW and is slated to deliver a vibrant, revitalized corridor for walking and cycling in the region.

Mr Hyde said Snowy Valleys Council was confident and committed to partnering with the NSW Government in the delivery of a successful rail trail

“We are committed to getting it right, knowing that it will be the pilot rail trail project for the State and a working model for future trails,” Mr Hyde said.
