Snowy Valleys Council has set some clear goals for the New Year and adopted its Advocacy Plan - ensuring there will be a sustained approach to securing funding and support for ten priority projects in the lead up to the 2019 State and Federal Government elections.

“The ten projects contained within the Advocacy Plan were determined as a result of the feedback given to Council staff and Councillors during the development of the Community Strategic Plan, Snowy Valleys 2028,” said Snowy Valleys Mayor, Councillor James Hayes.

“The projects have been identified as critical to delivering on the community vision of supporting a thriving, inclusive region where people want to live, work and invest now and in the future.”

The Advocacy Plan outlines project funding requirements, local and regional benefits, links to local, state and Federal priorities and the level of support required. The ten projects are:

1. Brindabella Road upgrade

2. Upgrade of key freight and haulage routes

3. Completion of the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail

4. Caravan Park improvements

5. Education & Business Centre of Excellence/Country University Centre

6. Multipurpose Centre

7. Access to health professionals

8. Industrial Lands

9. Softwood Centre of Excellence/Hub

10. Connectivity

The Plan has been developed to support work that Council is undertaking through its strategic alliance with the Canberra Region Joint Organisation and REROC.

It is the intention that the Advocacy Plan will be reviewed regularly to ensure that it remains relevant and that it keeps pace with the changing political environment.

“The Advocacy Plan makes it easy for Councillors and Council staff to target decision makers with consistent, clear information about what is needed to progress the projects and deliver positive outcomes to the region,” continued Cr Hayes.

“With both State and Federal elections coming up in 2019 we will be working very hard to seize the opportunity to escalate and promote the community’s priority projects in an effort to secure funding and support.”
