The gift of Christmas came early this year when the Tumbarumba Toy Library opened its doors for the first time.

The Tumbarumba branch of the Khancoban Toy Library was opened at the Regional Transaction Centre (RTC) on Friday 7 December.

“We had a great turn out of families and children on the day,” said Tracy Wiggins, Council’s Divisional Manager for Community Services. “They all enjoyed playing with the new toys and making the most of the open day.

“Children often become tired of toys quickly and the toy library gives the opportunity to swap the toys over to keep children engaged,” Ms Wiggins said.  “Comments we heard on the day included what a great idea being able to borrow toys was and what a wide selection there was to choose from”.

“The most popular toys on the day were the brand new Crazy Coupe Cars and puzzles.  It was so rewarding to see the children riding the cars around the RTC building”.

The toy library offers age appropriate toys and learning tools for early childhood as well as for school aged children, including board games, flash cards for mathematical learning and literacy resources. There is also a great range of science resources, dress ups (great for book week).

“Council is proud to be able to offer the toy library in two locations, Khancoban and now Tumbarumba,” Ms Wiggins said.

“For just $20 toy library membership is a great way to introduce children to new toys as they grow and learn -without breaking the bank or the storage cupboards in your home” said Ms Wiggins.

To obtain a membership form or more information, please contact the Toy Library Coordinator on 0409 507 695 or email [email protected]

The Toy Library service is available for use during school terms. Both locations will be closed over Christmas but will be up and running again in the New Year - dates to be confirmed.
