Keen swimmers with after-hour access cards will be able to enjoy the waters of the Tumut pool from this Saturday 21st October.

Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Assets Matthew Christensen has confirmed that the pool will be ready to go.

“The work on the access ramp to the big pool has been completed and it looks great. The Tumut pool will be open for swipecard users from this Saturday, and will open to the general public on Saturday 28th October,” he said.

The $155,000 accessibility project has been jointly funded through a $75,000 Sport and Recreation grant, with the remainder of funds coming from Council’s general reserve.

Council’s Pool Manager Mr Dave Mayo has been working hard to ready the pools for the swimming season ahead.

“Our pool team and works crews have been busy prepping the pools for our early season swimmers, and they’re looking fantastic,” Mr Christensen said.

The recent weeks has seen a series of improvements underway or completed for the three Tumut Region pools.

Work has commenced on the installation of a community barbeque facility at the Adelong Community Aquatic Centre.

“We’ve just completed the installation of a state of the art electric barbeque in Adelong. Within the next couple of weeks, the shade structure will be installed. This is an important addition to the facility, providing more opportunity for families and groups to enjoy the pool and its surrounds,” said Mr Christensen.

The new barbeque project has a price tag of $25,000 which includes the concreting, power, barbeque and the shelter structure.

“The Adelong Progress Association has been advocating for this facility for some time now, so we’re incredibly pleased to be able to provide it in this year’s budget in time for summer,” said Mr Christensen.

The Batlow pool facility is also sporting $30,000 in improvements, with a new coat of paint, the replacement of skimmer boxes and essential pipework and the installation of a hot water system for the amenities and kiosk.

“The Batlow Swimming Club has been great supporters of the facility, and we’ve been able to install the hot water system, the first for the pool, this year. Swimmers will be able to enjoy a hot shower after their dip, and it’s an important facility for staff,” he said.

“Once the painting is finished, we’ll get the pool filled and start the filtration, ready to open the gates for Batlow swimmers on Saturday 4 November”.

Season tickets are now on sale from the Tumut Council office, the Batlow library for Batlow swimmers and will be available from each of the pools when they open to public.

Mr Christensen is pleased with the strong interest in the Learn to Swim and Aqua Aerobics program.

“We’re currently taking expressions of interest in all of our programs, including function and party bookings, through our website. This allows our staff to schedule the programs and the instructors,” he said.

Council’s Learn To Swim and Aqua exercise programs will recommence at all three of the Tumut region pools. Visit www.snowyvalleys.nsw.gov.au and follow the link for pools on the homepage.

The Tumut and Adelong pools will open to the public next Saturday 28 October, and the Batlow pool will open for both swipecard swimmers and the general public on Saturday 4 November. The Tumbarumba pool will open on Monday 13 November (weather permitting) and the Khancoban pool will open early December.
