Tumut residents can expect to receive a new pump track for Christmas with Snowy Valleys Council inviting expert track building companies to tender for the design and construction of the specialised facility.

The pump track is part of Council's improvement plans for the southern corner of Fitzroy Street Park, which also includes the redevelopment of the existing skate park. Designed to complement the existing surrounding playground and equipment, the pump track will offer more options for different age groups and abilities in this area. It also supports the Council’s intention to make the Snowy Valleys a premium cycling destination.

Council’s Director of Assets and Infrastructure Matt Christensen says Council is looking forward to engaging contractors so construction of the highly-anticipated facility can begin.

“The pump track will be great way for parents to encourage children to enjoy some time being active outside. It’s a fun, safe place for young kids on balance bikes or scooters, but it’s also suitable for skate boards and cyclists of all abilities. Its features are nice and rollable for beginners and allow for progression to pumping and even jumping as skill levels improve. We are excited to be moving forward on this and we are aiming to start construction of the track before winter, subject to contractor availability.”

Mr Christensen says it also opens up opportunities for bike skill development clinics to occur in Tumut in the future.

“PRO BMX rider, Cam White, ran a fantastic interactive bike skills clinic for kids on the new Tumbarumba pump track during Tumbafest and now Tumut residents can look forward to having the same kind of opportunities”, Mr Christensen said.

Council secured funding for the pump track through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund Round 2.
