Snowy Valleys residents can now purchase replacement waste and recycling kerbside bins from Council offices in both Tumut and Tumbarumba

In response to requests from residents about the purchase of waste and recycling bins Council has now started stocking the bins for sale in both locations.

Council’s Waste Management Strategy Officer Mr Ken Fletcher said that in the past Tumut area residents were required to purchase new bins from retail outlets while Tumbarumba area residents could buy them through Council.

“Council buys the bins in bulk making the purchase price for residents cheaper than retail and we wanted to make this accessible for all Snowy Valleys residents,” Mr Fletcher said.

Purchase of a new bin can be done over the counter at both the Tumbarumba and Tumut offices.

“Payment can be made by either cash or card at Council offices and the new bins can then be collected from the Tumut or Tumbarumba Waste and Recycling Depots”, said Mr Fletcher.

The new bins have microchips embedded into the handles, similar to the microchips used in pet identification, to help make bin theft more difficult.

“It’s costly to have to replace bins and one of the simplest ways to lessen the risk of theft and vandalism is to avoid leaving them on the street for extended periods”, said Mr Fletcher.
