Liquid Trade Waste
Liquid trade waste is defined as: 'all liquid wastes discharged into the sewerage system, other than domestic sewage' and needs to be approved by Council under Section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993.
Trade waste is a by-product which results from an activity that generates a waste requiring pre-treatment and disposal in accordance with Legislative requirements and State guidelines.
Examples of this regulated discharge include:
- Food shops
- Bakeries
- Supermarkets
- Restaurants
- Hotels, Motels, Clubs and Hostels
- Hospitals
- School canteens
The discharges of trade waste are required to enter into formal trade waste agreements with Council and must comply with the relevant statuary regulations and requirements. All non-residential properties discharging liquid trade waste to the sewerage system will be inspected by Snowy Valleys Council to ensure compliance to the conditions within their agreement. Typically a trade waste agreement is valid for 5 years.
