Councillor James Hayes, Mayor
“As Councillors, we need to do more listening and less talking.”
James Hayes has proven strong links with the community and was serving his third term as a Councillor with Tumut Shire Council prior to the amalgamation, including six years as Deputy Mayor.
James is a fifth generation grazier from Adelong. James, along with his wife, owns and operates a small sheep and cattle grazing property close to town.
James would like to be a voice for the rural ratepayers of the Snowy Valleys Council area.
For over twenty five years James has taught in the field of Special Education helping children with disabilities at Tumut High School. During this time he has also been closely involved in school sport, in particular cricket at Local, Regional, State and International level.
James is passionate about youth, and feels that council has an active role to play in the provision of opportunities for youth to participate and engage in community life.
James is also a member of the NSW Teachers Federation as well as holding life membership of NSW CHS Cricket and the Order of Australia Association.
James feels that the smaller communities of the Snowy Valleys Council area have much to gain by working together, in partnership with Council, to deliver better amenities, facilities and opportunities.
James is future focused, and would like to see Snowy Valleys Council be cohesive, successful and consultative.
