“I would like to see my time in council characterized by greater collaboration with community groups, better understanding of youth issues, and more conformance and capacity for the area’s resilience to extreme events and environmental change.”

Cr Hughes lives in Batlow with his young family and runs a local sign and print business.

He has lived in Sydney and Newcastle and is an experienced Sign-Maker, Printer, Jeweller, Artist, Sports Administrator and Coach.

As a first time Councillor Sam believes in a healthy team environment and strong, effective communication with the community.

Cr Hughes is excited and humbled to have the chance to be part of the elected council in these times and says he will strive for factual, robust open-minded debate and will consider options to problems based on their merit to find the best solution.

Sam believes the Snowy Valleys region is a tremendously capable community and whatever the next three years can throw at us, he would like to say he did his part and gave it his all.
