Seventeen Adelong main street properties are in for a spruce up, thanks to grants of up to $10,000 being provided under the Snowy Valleys Council’s Adelong Façade Grants Program.

Owners and operators of commercial buildings and businesses in Adelong were invited to apply for up to $10,000 in funding to assist with improving the street appeal of their properties located in Tumut Street, Adelong.

Mayor Cr James Hayes congratulated the recipients of the funding and said it was really encouraging to see the interest shown by businesses and property owners in renovating and preserving the history and heritage of Adelong’s main street.

“Adelong is a beautiful town and the whole main street will see a lift when the works are complete,” he said. “The added vibrancy in the street will bring people together and help to promote the offerings of the town which is great for business and tourism”.

Buildings to gain funding included the Old Pharmacy Building, the S&C Club, Bendigo Bank, the Adelong Hotel, Beaufort House B & B, and the Community Hall with applicants receiving grants ranging from $1,300 to $10,000.

A co-contribution has been provided by all property owners who have requested funding through the program.

Council’s Acting Director of Strategy, Community and Development Phil Stone said the program generated a great deal of interest from property owners with the funds being oversubscribed.

“The successful projects were selected by the Heritage Grants assessment panel based on a set of criteria and the monies can be used for restoration works including painting, signwriting, repair and clean-up of buildings,” said Mr Stone.

“Council has implemented building permits, development consents and TCPs for each project and our Heritage Advisor is also assisting owners with approved colour palettes and project scope,” he said.

Snowy Valleys Council received $100,000 in funding, through the NSW Stronger Communities Fund Round 2 (SCF2) in a one-off funding program for the Adelong Main Street Façade initiative.

Projects are to be completed by May 2020 and individual property owners are responsible for the delivery of their projects with a Council officer being appointed as overseer.
