Snowy Valleys Council has given the green light for a brand new playing surface and irrigation system at Batlow Oval that will be ready in time for spring.

The Oval will be closed from Wednesday 24 June to allow preparation works to commence.

The upgrade will deliver a new and improved playing surface for the cricket oval, football field and 400 metre running track and includes levelling of the existing playing surface, new drainage, installation of automatic irrigation systems and rain sensors, installation of turf underlay and a new playing surface. New drainage will also be incorporated into the new surfaced area to prevent water build up and wet areas.

Executive Director of Infrastructure Heinz Kausche said, “The upgrades will significantly improve the quality of the playing fields for users as well as making it easier to keep them in better condition all year round thanks to automatic irrigation and better drainage.”

The Batlow Oval will be closed to the public from Wednesday 24 June to allow for works to get underway. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2020.

The $613,680 works are possible as a result of a grant from the NSW Showgrounds Stimulus Funding program.

As part of phase-one of the NSW Showgrounds Stimulus Program Council also received funding for:

  • Adelong Showground – upgrading of the dining/kitchen area ($30,582.00 Incl. GST)
  • Tumbarumba Showground – installation of lighting around the showground oval ($180,000 Incl. GST)
