Snowy Valleys Council is partnering with Quest for Life to host a free online workshop to provide recovery strategies to build individual and community resilience.

The Building Resilient Families online workshop provides practical self-help techniques and strategies that complement and support people's daily challenges.

Mayor James Hayes said the impacts of Covid-19 onto top of the bushfire emergency has caused many changes to life as we know it, both in the workplace and in the home.

“I encourage everyone to get involved with the workshop if they can.  It’s so important that we take care of our mental health as well as our physical health and teach our children to do the same,” Mayor Hayes said.

Quest’s nationally acclaimed workshops enable people to regain a sense of control over their lives and actively participate in their own wellbeing. Participants are educated on research into neuroplasticity, epigenetics, meditation, mindfulness and healthy lifestyle factors including nutrition, sleep and exercise.

“This important workshop is being made available to anyone within the Snowy Valleys region and thanks to Snowy Valleys Council will be free for all participants” Mayor Hayes said.

Council’s Executive Director Community and Corporate Paul Holton said Council recognises that there will be a mental health cost of this pandemic especially while people are still recovering and healing from the bushfires.

“Our community development team are continuing to identify resources and strategies which will assist building community and individual resilience and help people navigate through the immediate and long term challenges of this unprecedented situation.

“We are fortunate to be working with Quest for Life and Petrea King who have such a wealth of knowledge and expertise around helping communities, individuals and families to build resilience and emotional intelligence.

“The Building Resilient Families online workshop endeavours to support each participant so that they leave with a greater understanding of themselves and a deeper respect for their unique story.”

The workshop will take place on Thursday 7 May 2020 from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
