Snowy Valleys Council is dedicated to maintaining momentum and delivering tangible help on the ground to bushfire affected residents despite the restrictions being put in place due to COVID-19.

Mayor James Hayes said, “The message from the NSW Office of Emergency Management is that mobile recovery outreach services are an essential service for fire-affected residents, and we will continue to provide this service for as long as it is practical to do so.

“Protections such as social distancing and controls on large gatherings mean we have to adjust some of the ways we communicate but this will not detract from our core goal of delivering support and helping people rebuild and recover.

“The situation is changing rapidly and Council is looking at different initiatives in order to adapt to the current environment and continue to get information out to our bushfire affected communities”.

With the COVID-19 restrictions creating new challenges to bushfire recovery, Council is ramping up their mobile outreach services again using the Charlie Truck and visiting local areas to continue providing support and resources for affected residents.  The locations being visited over the coming days are:

  • Courabyra/Willigobung on Friday 27 from 10am-12pm at the Courabyra RFS Shed
  • Taradale/Oberne on Friday 27 from 2pm-4pm at the Taradale RFS Shed
  • Yaven Creek on Tuesday 31 March from 10am-12pm at the Yaven Creek RFS Shed
  • Wondalga on 31 March from 2pm-4pm at the Wondalga RFS Shed

“Council and our Recovery Team are invested in the community’s recovery journey and we will continue to best support our community on their road to recovery,” said Cr Hayes.

“We will continue to update people through our Facebook page, Council’s weekly Recovery Bulletin, local radio stations and local newspapers”.

Service NSW is also continuing its Bushfire Customer Care program. Anyone who needs assistance can call 13 77 88.
