Snowy Valleys Libraries have introduced a ‘Click and Collect’ service in response to social distancing and hygiene measures required by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Council’s Executive Director Community and Corporate Paul Holton said even though Libraries are closed to the public, the library team have been busily working behind closed doors developing alternative services while complying with health and safety directives.

“Like so many other businesses across the region, we are adapting and innovating so we can continue to deliver essential services to our communities,’ he said.

The new Click and Collect service allows library users to search materials from their local Library’s online catalogue and then collect from the Library’s front door where their order will be packed into a new plastic bag ready for pick up.

Mr Holton said there would be no physical interaction between Library staff and the public so the collection is a safe one.

“Locals can also ring the library and request a genre or author and staff will choose books, magazines or dvds to be collected,” he said.

“We want to ensure that our community continues to have access to knowledge, entertainment, education and inspiration in the coming months and this program gives people back a bit of Library normality”.

Members of the Tumut Library started accessing the service last week and this week the program has extended to the Tumbarumba and Talbingo Libraries.

“We will continue to work on establishing the program in other libraries as the opportunity presents itself,” Mr Hyde said.

Snowy Valleys Council Library members can also download eMagazines, eBooks and eAudiobooks 24 hours a day, seven days a week via the Riverina Regional Library’s website –https://rrl.nsw.gov.au

Becoming a library member is free and temporary membership can be set up online.
