Council Awards $97,500 in Community Strengthening Grants

Local festivals, cultural events, building upgrades and memoirs of the black summer bushfires are just some of the projects receiving funding through Council’s 2020/21 Community Strengthening Grants.

Snowy Valleys Council in partnership with Snowy Hydro recently awarded $97,500 in funding to sixteen local community groups.

Mayor James Hayes congratulated the grant recipients and said the quality of applications was higher than ever this year.

“The assessment process was extremely competitive and it’s gratifying to learn about the exciting projects that local groups wish to deliver that will have benefits for the wider community,” he said.

The 2020 independent assessment panel included Councillors and representatives from Snowy Hydro. 

Thirty-five applications were received with $269,568 of funds requested and sixteen projects were approved for funding to the value of $97,500.

Mayor Hayes thanked all applicants for their passion, ideas and community-mindedness.

“The interest we received is a testament to the positive impact the grants have in the community and we are proud to support such an interesting collection of projects and initiatives.

“I look forward to seeing the benefits of this funding coming to fruition and seeing the projects being delivered over the coming year,” said Cr Hayes.

Projects from across the region successful in receiving grant monies are:

  • Batlow Story Group (Batlow RSL) - Undefendable - the memoir of a town under fire - $10,000
  • Gilmore Progress Association - Gilmore Hall Landscaping and Garden restoration - $5,000
  • Khancoban United Volunteers Association (KUVA) - Upgrade KUVA Office - $2,225
  • Tumut Regional Family Services - Buram-ba-birra Dhangaang (Share Food) - in Wiradjuri Language - $1,900
  • Tumbarumba Endurance Riders Club - Easter 2021 Endurance 3 Day Event - $8,900
  • Do It for Batlow - Weemala Walking and Riding Trails at Batlow Lookout - $9,836
  • Tumut Schools as Community Centres - Sandpit with Shade Sail Cover $3,500
  • Tumorrama Recreation Hall - Upgrade of Kitchen Area - $9,398
  • Adelong Community Enterprises - Internal Painting at Rustic Creations - $6,150
  • Batlow Apple Tree Learning Centre - Rubber soft fall baby play area - $10,000
  • Tumbarumba Historical Society - Union Jack History Display - $2,223
  • Tumut Golf Club - Digital Notice Boards - $2,868
  • Brungle Tumut Local Aboriginal Lands Council - Dancing on Country - $5,000
  • Rotary Club of Tumut - Snowy Valleys Cycle Challenge and All Together Adelong Festival - $5,500
  • Rotary Club of Batlow - Batlow Women’s Land Army Mural 2 - $5,000
  • Camp Hudson Management Committee - Roof replacement Camp Hudson - $10,000
