Snowy Valleys Council has awarded the survey contract for the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail after a successful tender process.

At their August meeting, Councilors resolved to award the surveying services tender to Candence Consulting Surveyors Pty Ltd for a fixed price of $159,500 (including GST).

Snowy Valleys Mayor Cr James Hayes hailed the announcement of the successful tender as a major milestone for the project.

“It’s great to see the project gathering momentum and we look forward to the delivery of this major infrastructure development”, Cr Hayes said.

The scope of works incorporated into the survey tender includes a boundary survey of the full rail trail corridor and a detailed feature survey of the corridor, for the purposes of design and a draft and final set of drawings.

Council’s Director Assets and Infrastructure Matt Christensen said Council received four tender applications for the work within the tender closing period.

“All were then evaluated against a selection criterion including previous experience, qualifications, capabilities and understanding of scope, and provision of methodologies with Candence Consulting being the successful applicant”, Mr Christensen said.

The Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail Project extends from Albury Street, Tumbarumba to McEachern Lane in Rosewood and involves transforming the existing 22-kilometre-long disused rail corridor into a multi-purpose recreational trail.

It is proposed to construct the recreational trail by removing the rails and sleepers and constructing a sealed surface, while maintaining/restoring other railway artefacts including bridges, signs and station infrastructure.

The project is the first of three Government supported pilot projects in NSW involving closure of a disused public railway for conversion to a rail trail for recreational use.

Funding of $4,900,000 for the project has been provided under the State Government’s Restart NSW fund.

Mr Christensen said that the survey works, and final drawings are expected to be completed by the end of November 2018.
