Snowy Valleys Council is inviting tender applications for the design and construction of the new Batlow Library.

Acting Director of Assets and Infrastructure Heinz Kausche says Council is looking forward to engaging contractors so construction of the new facility can get underway.

“We have been spending some extra time ensuring the best design possible in space and functionality for both the new Library and the existing Literary Institute building,” he said.

The design will maximise the library floor area and provide the flexibility to offer more options for community groups, youth and adult programming as well as extended meeting room and toilet access for the Literary Institute.

The old library space will be redeveloped to incorporate a meeting room, dual access toilets and extended storage options for the Literary Institute, while the new extension will feature a large library space, wi-fi and a designated technology area, a meeting room and kitchenette.

Mr Kausche said that while previously slated to start at the end of September the build is now estimated to commence in early November 2019.

“Council has until February 2020 to have the build completed and we are confident of meeting this funding deadline,” he said.

Funding for Batlow’s new $1 million library facility comes from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Community Fund.

Tender documentation is available via Council’s Tenderlink website and requests for tender close at 12pm on Friday 27 September 2019.
