Snowy Valleys Council is currently recruiting for three fixed term traineeship roles as part of its plan to provide additional local employment opportunities in the region.

Partnering with TAFE Tumut and TAFE Digital the three entry level positions are in the areas of Financial Services, Business Administration and Project Management.

Mayor James Hayes said this is the start of a program of traineeships, apprenticeships and cadetships that Council will be rolling out over the coming financial year.

“The timing of these first three positions will help to fill the gap for those who may have had their schooling interrupted or employment affected by the Bushfires or the Pandemic, providing them with the opportunity to reskill or upskill,” Mayor Hayes said.

Council has discussed the entry level program with local schools and training providers to better understand the opportunities that school leavers are seeking and all positions combine on-the-job learning with formal study resulting in a qualification at the end of the term.

The Financial Services Traineeship is a 24 month fixed term with completion of a Certificate IV in Financial Services through TAFE Digital and on-the-job learning of all aspects of accounts payable and creditors across Council.

The Business Administration Traineeship is offered as a 12 month fixed term with completion of a Certificate III in Business Administration through Tumut TAFE and on-the-job learning across Council business areas including Human Resources, Planning and Environment, Records, Governance, and Libraries.

The Project Management traineeship is offered as a 24 month fixed term with completion of a Certificate IV Project Management Practice through TAFE Digital and on-the-job learning with Council’s Infrastructure Works Department.

“These are wonderful opportunities for enthusiastic and reliable people to join Council and I encourage anyone who is interested in combining study with practical learning to apply,” said Mayor Hayes.

Council currently employs five apprentices across the region, two trainee horticulturists and three trainee mechanics.  A further intake will be opened up in January 2021.
