Snowy Valleys Council has received Government funding to deliver an additional four priority infrastructure projects across the region in the 2020/21 financial year.

Council received $871,816 in funding from the Australian Government’s $500 million Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program which was announced to support jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The four projects, which will be part funded by Council are replacement of the Withers Creek timber bridge; upgrade of the Wondalga Road intersection; upgrade of Rifle Range Road; and upgrades to the Jingellic Public Toilets.

In recommending the projects for the funding Council’s Executive Director Infrastructure Heinz Kausche said that they were all high priority projects which could be realistically delivered within the required funding timeframe.

“These critical infrastructure works were already in planning and the Federal funding has provided a great opportunity to bring them forward and fast track them for delivery,” he said.

Replacement of the old Withers Creek timber bridge will secure access to multiple properties with no alternative access if the bridge becomes impassable.

Upgrade of the Wondalga Road Intersection, which is a priority advocacy project and a key forestry link road will be delivered in partnership with the Softwoods Working Group.

Upgrade of Rifle Range Road in Tumut will provide a better level service to the high volume of heavy vehicles that rely on the roadway.

Upgrade of the Public Toilets in Jingellic will ensure the amenities are compliant and accessible.

The projects are to be completed by 30 June 2021.
