Snowy Valleys Council (SVC) is currently seeking expressions of interest for lease of the Roth’s Corner Medical Centre in Tumbarumba for the further development and operation of an ongoing medical centre.

Mayor James Hayes said that Council is keen to explore leasing of the premises and the operation of the medical centre to interested GPs or practices.

“It is our priority to ensure an appropriate standard of health service is retained in the Tumbarumba area,” said Cr Hayes.

“Having a functioning medical centre with a GP is essential.  Healthcare across the Snowy Valleys and the lack of GPs in the area is of ongoing concern and we continue to work and meet with our local health districts to advocate and discuss our issues here in the region,” he said.

Centrally located in Tumbarumba, Roth’s Corner Medical Centre is owned by Snowy Valleys Council and was purpose built in 2005. The centre consists of three consulting rooms, reception area, treatment room, sterilisation room, practice manager’s office and ample staff and customer parking.

Council’s Acting Director Phil Stone said the current Medical Centre lease is due to expire soon and Council is very conscious of the need for its continued operation.

“SVC have released an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Medical Centre. Our preference and priority is that it is leased by a practicing GP, however if a reasonable offer to purchase was made with the medical practice remaining, it would be considered and presented to Council after consultation with the community.

“The other occupants of the centre, including pathology, optometrist and dental services are continuing as normal and are not affected by the EOI,” said Mr Stone.

The Centre is accredited by General Practice Australia until 2022 for Practice Incentive Payments and is fully computerised with an electronic medical records system.

Other services currently provided on the site include Pathology Collection Centre; Dental Suite; Optometrist Suite; Visiting podiatrist, physiotherapist, diabetic educator, dietician, psychologist and mental health practitioner; and Telehealth facilities.

Anyone wishing to inspect the premises prior to submitting an EOI, or with any questions about the EOI process are encouraged to email Glen McGrath, Division Manager Asset Planning and Design [email protected] or contact Kylie Bradley, Coordinator Economic Development on 02 6948 9118 or [email protected].

Expressions of interest are to be lodged on-line at tenderlink.com/snowyvalleys or via the tender box at Snowy Valleys Council’s Tumbarumba office, Bridge Street, Tumbarumba by 5pm on Thursday, 10th October 2019.
