Snowy Valleys Council is reaching out to local businesses, agencies, and industry bodies to express an interest in presenting at the upcoming Snowy Valleys Careers Expo.

Council is partnering with Training Services NSW to deliver the Careers Expo to help broaden local student’s awareness of the career opportunities available in the Snowy Valleys and to equip them with the knowledge and resources required to pursue a particular pathway.

Council’s CEO Matthew Hyde said businesses who exhibit at the Expo will have the opportunity to market to the region’s upcoming school leavers and speak with students and job seekers about career opportunities.

“With many industries across the region experiencing staff and skill shortages, we anticipate that the Expo will benefit businesses and industry by attracting students and jobseekers to learn more about local job and career pathway opportunities,” Mr Hyde said.

The event was due to be held earlier this year but was postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions and is now set to take place on Wednesday 18 May, in line with National Careers Week.

The Expo, to be held at the Tumut Boys Club Hall and adjacent netball courts, will host year 9 -12 students from Tumut, McAuley, Batlow, Tumbarumba, and Gundagai High Schools.

The secondary students will be attending the event throughout the day with allocated times between 10am and 2pm.

The event will also be open to the public from 2pm to 5pm and jobseekers and parents are encouraged to attend during this time.

The Careers Expo is part of the Succeed in the Snowy Valleys Program, which launched in October 2021 when Council partnered with Training Services NSW to deliver employer information sessions where businesses learnt about attracting apprenticeships, traineeships, and school-based apprenticeships to support employment and career opportunities for local youth.

Businesses, agencies and industry bodies are invited to register as an exhibitor at the Snowy Valleys Careers Expo by completing the online form at www.svc.nsw.gov.au/careers-expo.
