Council approves new Executive structure and $500,000 investment in apprenticeships, traineeships and cadets

Snowy Valleys Councillors yesterday unanimously endorsed a new Executive Level structure to better align resourcing with community priorities and achieve ongoing reductions in employee costs.

A $500,000 investment, offset against the savings to be realised from the streamlined organisational structure, was also approved for the creation of up to 13 apprentice, cadet or traineeship positions over the next two years.

The four senior staff of General Manager, Director Infrastructure and Assets, Director Internal Services and Director Community Strategy & Development will be replaced by:

  • Chief Executive Officer
  • Executive Director Corporate & Community
  • Executive Director Infrastructure.

In addition to the Executive Directors, the Chief Executive Officer will be supported by a Corporate Chief of Staff and a Chief Financial Officer as non-senior staff positions.

“The Council decision yesterday now allows me to transition current staff to an organisation structure that reflects a sustainable OneSVC approach and allows us to service our communities better,” said General Manager Matthew Hyde.

“Recruitment activities for the two Executive Directors and Chief Financial Officer positions will commence immediately.”

“Consultation with staff, Councillors and Unions has been extensive with excellent engagement and feedback – now that is over, it is my job to get it done based on what is now approved,” continued Mr Hyde.

The amended senior staff structure and supporting organisational structure will be implemented via a transition arrangement from 11 November 2019.

“The executive structure allows for the implementation of a structure that is appropriate to the performance of Council’s responsibilities and priorities,” said Mr Hyde.  “It will be a structure that we can afford and one that is able to meet the service, asset and regulatory needs of the organisation.”
