Snowy Valleys Council is on track to deliver over $6.5 million in funded major town projects by 31 December 2019.

General Manager Matthew Hyde said council staff had worked hard to deliver on community expectations as well as meeting the NSW Government’s funding guidelines.

“I am exceptionally proud of our performance in delivering these local infrastructure projects that will improve the amenity of our towns and villages and quality of life for people in our region,” Mr Hyde said.

“In strengthening our approach to project management with the establishment of a Program Management Office we have worked hard to ensure all projects are fully scoped, expensed, planned, and managed from inception to completion prior to commencement.

“It has also been gratifying to have received positive feedback from the Office of Local Government who are impressed with our results”.

Completed projects include:

  • Surface upgrades to Tumut’s Bull Paddock and the Tumbarumba Sports Ground;
  • Re-establishment of the Adelong Falls Creek Walk
  • Improvements to key sections of the Brindabella Road
  • Upgrades to the Khancoban Rose Garden
  • New public amenities and playground in Rosewood
  • New public amenities in Tooma
  • Talbingo walking track
  • Picnic tables and seating in Brungle
  • Upgrades to the Tumbarumba Creekscape Playground
  • Resurfacing of the Tumbarumba Showgrounds
  • Yaven Creek Road Project
  • Batlow’s HV Smith Park Playground Upgrade
  • Tumut Pump Track
  • Batlow CBD Pavement Upgrades

Upgrade works at the Khancoban shopping precinct and the new adventure playground in Talbingo are on track to be completed before the end of the year.

Installation of new amenities buildings at the Batlow and Adelong Caravan parks and at the Tumut Pool, along with bank stabilisation work at the Adelong Falls creek, the Adelong Playground upgrade and the Batlow Cannery demolition will be completed early in the new year.

After consultation with the Tumut Chamber of Commerce and the local business community, work on the Tumut CBD Development project will also begin in early January.

Mr Hyde said many of the community led projects were also either done or nearing completion including upgrades at the Adelong Showground, Tumut tennis court resurfacing, Talbingo tennis courts and Talbingo Country Club disability access, Thomas Boyd Track Head facility upgrades, upgrades at the Gilmore Hall, the Montreal Theatre’s new roof, the Tumbarumba Mountain Bike Track, Rosewood Golf Club upgrades and new signage at the Adelong Falls to name just a few.

“It is fantastic to see the level of commitment and enthusiasm from local committee groups and individuals delivering great projects for their towns,” he said.

“We’ve received lots of positive feedback on the projects delivered so far from community members which is very gratifying”.

Council will begin work on further major projects in 2020 including a learn to swim pool for the Tumbarumba Pool, tourism projects in Batlow and Adelong, Tumut Pool and Adelong Aquatic Centre water temperature regulation and the Batlow Library.
