Wynyard Street businesses will be getting a knock on the door in the coming weeks as part of the rejuvenation of Tumut’s CBD.

Council received $1,760,000 in funding from the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Infrastructure fund for improvements to Tumut’s main business district accessibility and amenity.

Prior to the planned upgrade works scheduled for the New Year, Council is liaising with businesses to gain a greater understanding of potential impacts such as parking and delivery access.

Council’s General Manager Matthew Hyde said the project was a major step towards providing the community with an improved retail precinct that will help continue to grow a strong local economy.

“The short term pain of disruption from construction will be outweighed by the long term benefit of a revitalized main street that will be an attractive place to visit with features that appeal to visitors and locals," Mr Hyde said.

“It’s been quite a few decades since the Tumut CBD received any significant attention and the response from local businesses and residents has been one of excitement.

“Whilst we can’t completely avoid disruptions during the works, we’re making sure they’ll be kept to a minimum so that it’s business as usual.

“That’s why we’re talking to impacted businesses now so that we can take into consideration their needs when finalising the contractual stage of the project”.

With nearly 70 businesses with shopfronts onto the works area and many more with indirect access the consultation will take up to two weeks.
