NAIDOC week 2021

With COVID restrictions impacting across NSW Council is respecting the wishes of our community Elders and postponing NAIDOC Week flag raising ceremonies and other group activities with a plan to celebrate with everyone later in the year.

For those who are looking for other ways to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples the following are some suggestions:

• Join us for a virtual screening this weekend of the documentary In My Own Words - Local-Events/NAIDOC-Week-Virtual-Film-Screening

• Head into your local Library and borrow the new book Bila Yarrudhanggalangdhuray by Anita Heiss https://www.facebook.com/TumbarumbaLibrary/photos/a.1465418210386529/2864969017098101

• Learn more about this year’s NAIDOC week theme, Heal Country https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2021-theme

• Watch special NAIDOC Week programming on SBS/NITV and ABC

• Use this year’s theme to connect to Country by going for a walk, exercising outside, visiting a local park or gardening.

• Plan your Australian travel bucket list including Indigenous sites of significance or interest.

Whatever you choose we encourage you to stop, reflect and celebrate.
