Local women interested in standing in the September NSW Local Government Elections can attend an upcoming Women’s Candidate Information Session to learn more about what being a councillor involves.

The free forum, to be held in Batlow on Sunday 30 May, will be hosted by the Australia Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) NSW.

ALGWA NSW President and Lithgow City Councillor Cassandra Coleman will present at the forum sharing her knowledge and experience to support women interested in having a voice in local government.

The Snowy Valleys Council currently enjoys strong female representation and CEO Matthew Hyde said he hopes the Women’s Candidate Session will generate a high level of interest from local women interested in learning more about local government.

“If you would like to have a role in important decision making for our Region then please come along and see how your skills can help your entire community,” he said.

“Women support their communities in so many ways and the candidate session offers an invaluable opportunity for attendees to learn about what being a councillor involves, and how you might get there”.

The Australian Local Government Women’s Association NSW Branch is a not-for-profit organisation which share the Government’s vision of a gender balanced local government sector and are committed to inspiring and supporting more women to stand for public office.

Further Snowy Valleys Candidate Sessions will also be held in Batlow on Friday 18 June and Saturday 19 June.

Everyone is welcome to attend any sessions as there will be useful information relating to becoming a councillor for all prospective candidates.
