Local primary and secondary students have the opportunity to try something new during the upcoming school holidays.

Snowy Valleys Council’s Place Activation team is working with Marty’s Music School to present a free school holiday music program for youth across the region.

Council’s Executive Director Community and Corporate Paul Holton said with COVID restrictions impacting the usual youth activities our team has been researching and investigating new and innovative options.

“The opportunity to partner with a local business like Marty’s Music School means we can offer programs in a friendly and COVID compliant environment,” he said.

Marty’s Music School is offering lessons for the first timers or those looking at trying out a new instrument. Guitar, Ukulele, Bass, Drums, Piano, Piano-Accordion and/or Singing lessons are being offered.

The free music lessons are 30 minutes long and provide students the opportunity to try a variety of instruments and receive professional advice.

Mr Holton said music is a key part of community building and something many youth may not have considered previously.

“We are thrilled that response to the program has been so positive.  So much so that a second day has been scheduled for Tumut and if uptake in Tumbarumba is as strong we will add another day there too,” he said.

Lessons are being held in Tumut on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 September at Marty’s Music School and in Tumbarumba on Wednesday 7 October  at the Tumbarumba Bowling Club.
