Key Decisions of Council Sept 2020

At their September ordinary meeting Council made the following key decisions

• Elected Cr John Larter as Deputy Mayor for the 2020-21 term.
• Agreed on the motions to be presented at the 2020 Local Government Conference:That LGNSW lobby the NSW Government to:

1. commitment for further funding to undertake weed eradication to reduce potential fuel loads
2. commitment to fund council-run early childhood education and care services
3. commit funding to better plan for bushfire management of Crown Lands, to help mitigate the bushfire risk to community.
4. enable local government greater management, divestment and approval abilities for Crown Land packages vested in councils, and provide appropriate funding to offset the additional cost and resource burden.
5. increase Financial Assistance Grants (FAGs) funding to 1% and include an additional roads and bridges allocation to disaster impacted councils for the restoration and repair of damaged road networks.
6. amend the eligibility criteria for the Job Keeper funds to allow a fairer distribution to impacted councils who have not had to ‘stand down’ staff as a result of the pandemic.
7. ensure that Local Government is appropriately funded and well placed to implement prevention, response and recovery initiatives resulting from the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Natural Disaster Arrangements and the NSW Bushfire Inquiry.

• Resolved to continue to advocate for the SVs community to be adequately consulted and compensated by Transgrid for the Humelink project; that a legacy program be set up to invest in the future of impacted communities; that consideration be made for the corridor be on public land where possible; and that potential impacts on the Tumut Aerodrome be reviewed.
• Agreed to trial a waste disposal voucher system for 6 months in an effort to reduce waste to landfill and costs associated with seasonal waste weekends.
• Resolved to enter into a new Resource Recovery Services Agreement with Valmar Support Services
• Approved the installation of a fence and automatic locking gate around the flying fox at Tumut’s Fitzroy St Playground to reduce noise at night
• Approved recipients of the 2020 Capital Sports Grants
• Agreed to place the draft companion animal management policy on public exhibition;
• Adopted the SVC Climate Change Adaptation Advisory Committee Terms of Reference and agreed to call for Expressions of Interest from members of the community to establish the committee;
• Acknowledged and thanked the many Tumbafest committee members and volunteers for their service and contribution over the years; agreed to dissolve the Tumbafest S355 committee and approved the donation and transfer of assets and funds to the new incorporated entity.
• Agreed to support the Tumbarumba Men’s Shed Association motion to become an incorporated entity
• Endorsed 14 recommendations from the traffic committee, including
  • Requesting that Transport for NSW assess the speed zone of the roads and streets around the Batlow CBD and Tumut St Adelong (between Campbell St and Quarz St) and recommend a 40km/hr zone
  • Three short term one hour parking bays at the entrance to the wellbeing hub at Tumut High School be introduced
  • School parking bays with bus zones be designed at Brungle and Rosewood public schools, and in Adelong’s CBD
