Level two water restrictions will start in Batlow from Wednesday 12 February 2020.

Batlow residents and businesses are asked to reduce their water consumption through simple measures, such as hand held garden watering and limited hours for sprinkler operation.

“We are currently experiencing low flows into the Kunama Dam which is the primary source of water for the township, requiring us apply level two water restrictions,” said Council’s Executive Director Infrastructure, Heinz Kausche.

“Whilst there is currently still ample water available in the dam, we need to reduce the demand on the dam now to ensure the longevity of supply”.

Under the Level 2 water restrictions:

  • Gardens and lawns can only be watered with fixed sprinklers and hoses between 6am and 9am, and 6pm and 9pm daily.
  • Smart and drip irrigation systems may only be used between 9pm and 6am
  • Hosing of hard surfaces including pavements is not permitted, unless in an emergency
  • Cars can only be washed on grass using a hose with trigger nozzle or at a commercial car wash

Mr Kausche said “Businesses and other users may apply for exemptions from the restrictions; these exemptions will be considered by Council on a case-by-case basis”.

Water restrictions are not currently in place for any other towns at this time although residents are encouraged to be mindful of their water usage and follow the water conservation tips on Council's website.

Information on the full range of accepted and prohibited activities for the water restriction levels is also available on Council’s website at www.svc.nsw.gov.au/water-restrictions
