The new date for Local Government Elections is now 4 December 2021 and Snowy Valleys Council is calling on locals who are passionate about what happens in the community to nominate as candidates for Council.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer Matthew Hyde said Councillors are responsible for making significant decisions that have far-reaching impacts on their community.

“If you would like to have a role in important decision making for our Region then becoming a councillor is an opportunity to make a difference and to represent the interests of residents,” Mr Hyde said.

“There are many online tools and resources to help a candidate in understanding what is involved including the SVC Candidate Handbook which contains information to help better understand the Snowy Valleys as a community and council,” said Mr Hyde.

The Office of Local Government has also launched a comprehensive online candidate training tool with detailed information about running for election and the roles and responsibilities of councils and councillors.

And the NSW Electoral Commission is hosting a range of information webinars to arm potential candidates with relevant information including a General Information webinar to be held on Thursday, 16 September 2021 at 11:00 am and a Nominations webinar scheduled for 11am on Tuesday, 28 September 2021.

Currently there are seven candidates listed on the NSW Local Government Elections Register for the Snowy Valleys area, however being registered as a candidate or group for the election is a separate process to being nominated to have your name included on a ballot paper.

The nomination period starts on Monday, 25 October 2021 and ends at 12 noon Wednesday, 3 November 2021. A person may be nominated by either a registered political party; or two electors.
