Playgrounds, skate parks, pump tracks and fitness stations around the Snowy Valleys will re-open for locals to enjoy again as of Friday 15 May.

Earlier this week the NSW Government announced more easing of COVID-19 restrictions will come into play this Friday including a new 10 person group limit and the reopening of playgrounds.

Snowy Valleys Council Mayor James Hayes said it was good news that the playgrounds could be reopened again as they provided an outlet for families and children to have some fun outdoors.

“The eased restrictions will allow more people to use these fantastic outdoor council facilities, but it is essential that we all work together to keep them safe for everyone to enjoy,” he said.

In preparation for the latest NSW Government restrictions being lifted on Friday, Council staff will be removing the closure signage and any barriers installed on the 25 of March and undertaking safety inspections to ensure the equipment is mechanically sound and operable after the closure period.

In addition, Council staff will be adding a periodic cleaning program for the playgrounds and installing new signage encouraging users to practice social distancing and good hand hygiene when using the equipment.

“We ask the community to continue to follow health guidelines and wherever possible, stay 1.5m apart and practice good hand hygiene both before and after using the equipment. The safety of our playgrounds is the responsibility of everyone,” Clr Hayes said.

Council facilities re-opening on Friday 15 May:

  • Playgrounds, outdoor gyms
  • BMX tracks, skate parks and pump tracks
  • Basketball and tennis courts

What you can do to keep playgrounds/equipment safe and clean:

  • Practice social distancing by maintaining a 1.5 metre distance between yourself and others
  • Sanitise your children’s hands before and after using playground equipment
  • Adhere to limits for public gatherings as advised by the State Government (from Friday no more than ten people gathering at any one time).
