Pump tracks are one of the fasting growing recreational spaces across the country, and now one is coming to Tumut.

Snowy Valleys Council Mayor Cr James Hayes said he is pleased to see the project starting to take form.

“Following on from the successful 2018 pump track build in Tumbarumba, it’s now Tumut’s turn for this great recreational facility for all ages and abilities to enjoy,” he said.

The asphalt pump track will be built in the south-west corner of the Tumut Bull Paddock near the corner of Fitzroy and Sydney Streets.

“Situating it adjacent to the existing skate park and basketball courts means that this area of the Bull Paddock is developing into a really exhilarating youth precinct,” said Cr Hayes.

“The pump track will complement the existing youth infrastructure and broaden the facilities available for different age groups and abilities not currently catered for by the skate park,” he said.

The Tumut track has been cleverly designed to loop around the established park trees and the trees will also help with shade over the hotter months.

The unique design of a pump track makes them suitable for bicycle or scooter riders, skateboarders and rollerbladers and accommodates all skill levels.

“I’m sure it will be another incentive to get the kids out of the house for some exercise and fun,” said Cr Hayes.

Site set-up is due to get underway from mid-September and the track is estimated to be completed in time for Christmas, weather dependent.

Council received $500,000 in grant funding through round two of the Government’s Stronger Communities Fund to design and construct a multi-use asphalt pump track in Tumut and construct a designated footpath/cycle way connecting the Bull Paddock area to Elm Drive.

The footpath/cycle way construction is due to start in the coming months.
