Three local students could each receive a $3,500 scholarship to assist with their studies at Charles Sturt University in 2020.

Snowy Valleys Council is proud to again be partnering with Charles Sturt University to assist local students with their education expenses.

“Applications for 2020 are now open and provide a great opportunity to offset some of the costs for those who have chosen to study at Charles Sturt,” said Mayor Cr James Hayes.

“We believe helping local students study in the region makes it easier for them to succeed at university,” said Cr Hayes.

‘Textbooks, travel or tools can be very costly, and the scholarship money can help take some of that pressure off and allow a student to focus on their study.

“It also increases the possibility of returning home once they’ve graduated to carry out their future career and contribute to their local communities”.

The Snowy Valleys Council Scholarship rewards students who have done well in their studies, had a positive involvement in their community and recognises career paths that may have positive benefit to the local region.

Three successful applicants will each receive $3,500 to assist with University costs and there is no restriction on how recipients utilise the scholarship funds.

“We want to encourage students who are starting their university study to apply, but continuing students are also eligible to do so,” said Cr Hayes.

Eligible students must have completed Years 11 and 12 in the Snowy Valleys region and be living or have a parent residing in the area.

The Snowy Valleys Council Scholarship is run through the Charles Sturt University Foundation Scholarships program, and over the years has been successful in supporting many local students with their studies.

Recipients of the scholarships in 2019 were Georgia Rusconi, Madeline Rusconi and Angel Horsley.
