Local road users will now know when school buses are operating in their area with twenty-six new School Bus Road Safety signs being installed to give more information on school bus movements.

Snowy Valleys Council Road Safety Officer Anthony Carroll said he had heard feedback from bus drivers, schools and parents asking for more information on bus routes to increase safety.

“We then consulted with the local bus operators on where the signs should be located to allow for safer driving in locations with limited sight distances.,” he said.

“The signs have been installed to help identify country school bus routes and provide road users more understanding of the times that school buses are operating, and when children may be near the road.”

Mr Carroll said road users should always take extra care when driving in school bus routes.

"It is important to be aware of children crossing or about to cross the road, and ensuring you slow down to 40km/h when bus lights flash, leaving plenty of space between your vehicle and the bus," he explained..

The new School Bus Road Safety signs are located on roads around Batlow, Ournie, Tumbarumba, Taradale, Gilmore, Brungle, Adelong, Laurel Hill, Tooma and Lacmalac.
