Snowy Valleys Council is pleased to announce that the 2021 Tumbatrek will be held on Saturday 13 February led by Mayor James Hayes and Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain.

An iconic annual event, Tumbatrek offers the chance to visit some of the region’s most beautiful scenery while providing opportunity to connect with government and community leaders in a less formal environment.

“Last year’s trek was an especially poignant one with participants getting to see firsthand how close the Dunns Rd bushfire came to the township of Tumbarumba and provided opportunity for council to advocate on behalf of the whole region for ongoing bushfire recovery support,” said Cr Hayes.

“This year we are pleased to be able to host the event as a showcase of the region’s renewal 12 months on from those devastating times and an opportunity for more informal talks about ongoing recovery support,” he said.

Community members are also invited to join the trek.  Cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child and includes morning tea, lunch, and transport from Tumbarumba.

Approximately 10kms long, this year’s walks follows a route that highlights some fascinating elements of local history. It is of medium-difficulty in parts and will have a COVID-safety plan in place.

Tumbatrek is a COVID-safe event and attendees are reminded to stay home and get tested if they are unwell.

Registrations close on Wednesday 10 February 2021 and numbers are limited.

Attendees are advised to bring sunscreen, hat, water, and hand sanitiser.

To register please contact Council’s Coordinator Place Activation, Kylie Bradley Email: [email protected] or  Phone: 0429 065 249.

Tumbatrek was the brainchild of the late Tim Fischer AC, former Deputy Prime Minister, who in 1985 along with a few keen locals wanted to promote tourism in the Tumbarumba region. It went into recess in 2007 and was resurrected in 2012 by Member for Riverina, Michael Mc Cormack MP.
