Social and well-being trips with Tumut District Community Transport (TDCT) are gradually being offered again as COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease across the State.

In the lead-up to Christmas new opportunities will be available for clients to help meet their transport needs.

Snowy Valleys Council’s Executive Director Community and Corporate Paul Holton said COVID-19 requirements depended on the number of people wanting to travel so people were advised to book early in order to ensure they are able to travel when and where they wish.

“As always, the safety of our passengers and drivers is our first consideration,” he said.

Mr Holton said the TDCT now employed a full-time co-ordinator, two administration officers, a full-time driver and a vehicle maintenance operator.

“This team are also supported by a wonderful group of local drivers who volunteer their time to take people to appointments and grocery shopping in Tumut and specialist appointments in Wagga, Albury and Canberra or other locations as necessary.

“We are pleased that the TDCT team is now at full strength and we can look forward to the rest of the year and 2021 with enthusiasm and confidence,” he said.

The TDCT provides services to people who are isolated and transport disadvantaged or have health related transport needs and is part of the Commonwealth Home Support Program, whose goal is to assist people to remain living in their own homes as long as possible.  This includes people who are frail and aged, people with disability and their carers/assistants and others engaged with the National Disability Insurance Agency.

Open five days per week from 8am to 4pm the TDCT can be contacted on 6941 2591 during business hours for appointment bookings, or drop in and talk to the team personally during office hours at 81 Capper Street (the entrance is around the back of the building).
