Upgrades for Bull Paddock Major upgrade

Published on 7 November 2022

Works on the northern fields of Tumut’s Bull Paddock will soon be underway with the drainage and irrigation project set to start this week.

The upgrade will improve the ground’s drainage and provide automatic irrigation offering user groups better usage of the oval during wet weather, and better watering coverage during drier seasons.

While the works are in progress the northern playing fields will be closed. User groups have been informed and alternative locations have been organised during the closure.

A significant portion of the southern end of the Bull Paddock was successfully upgraded in 2019, which has enabled the southern fields to remain open during wet weather and users have benefitted from the enhancements.

This stage of the project also includes upgrades to the remainder of the southern fields, at the shot-put circle end, to improve the playing surface. The Bull Paddock will also soon boast new female change room facilities, including separate change rooms and showers for visitors and home teams, plus storage and umpire’s rooms.

Local sporting groups fully support the expansion to provide a safe and suitable place for female athletes to use and hope it will increase female participation. The new facility will be built next to the existing building with an exterior to match.

Currently in the design phase, the project is due for completion by 30 June 2024.

Ultimately, these works will provide sporting groups and users with state-of-the-art modern facilities.

Council received $401,921 for the Bull Paddock Drainage and Oval Extension project from the Greater Cities and Regional Sport Facility Fund 2021/22 (Round 2), and funding of $400,000 from the NSW Stronger Country Communities Fund (Round 4) towards the new female change room facilities.
